What do you look for in a shared host?

I tend to go for hosts that offer reasonable upgrade plans as your site expands. I'd rather a host be reliable, and not oversell than use one that offers crazy amounts of space and bandwidth, but can't deliver.

- servers close to my location and/or my visitors location. Accessing a site from a long distance can cause slow loading.
- price: ~$5/month, monthly payment.
- reliable, reputable with good reviews on forums
- multiple mySQL databases which allow upload of many scripts

I look for the space. I tend to create sites that will eventually require a lot of space so I like to sign up for a host that offers what I need for the time being.

I go for hosting that's really good value for the price.

I look for quality and doesn't care about price until the QoS is very good. I dont want to go with cheap hosts which will keep my sites down for 6 hours every day.

Price is always a good thing to look at but cheap prices usually doesn't scream quality.

That much is obvious.

It depends, if the host is hosting a forum and site, you need to make sure your host can support the bandwidth(if you have a big forum or site, or both).
