Can I run a proxy on a VPS? Or do I REALLY need to get a dedicated...?

You need to get a dedicated server because if you are going to be running one proxy some hosting services first of all do not allow it. Secondly you would also need more then one proxy to actually have a good thing going for you in the first place. So if getting a dedicated server is not an option for you I would suggest waiting to do this project for a later date. So that your account does not get suspended on the hosting site you are using. You also want to make sure that your proxy works on forums as well. Where people can register threw your proxy as that is what most proxies are used for.

It is possible to run a proxy site on a VPS account. Many webhost providers already allow this service. It is better though to check your web host before committing to a VPS account.
