It is a way to rank websites by google based on link popularity. The more you get backlinks, the better your page rank will be. Btw, quality is considered more here rather than quantity.

Page Ranking also considers the age of your domain and site. Fresh content is also essential.

Thats actually not correct, PageRank is not affected by the age of your site, neither by the content. I have seen many sites who use Wikipedia content and have PR6.

It's a system for ranking web pages.

But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

I agree with sufi. A new site can gain high Page Ranking if you have a link from a high PR site.

I think there has just been a confusion between Page rank and rankings. Any way, Page Ranking shouldn't be given much attention as rankings.

You're right.^ Didn't even notice. Here's a more appropriate answer:

LOL, I didn't even know that Page ranking refers to something else, till today I always considered it as simple Page Ranking. Yes, Page ranking definitely considers the age, content, keywords etc. I take my statement back which I have posted above.
