Is it possible to rank high in search engines even thought the domain that I use does not really tell so much about my niche?

The answer will be yes, the main king is content (see our Content is King thread) and after that link backs. Just mention proper description and keywords in the meta tags. Domain helps you ranking good in MSN search engine only.

Of course it's possible. One of my sites is number one on Google for something that has nothing to do with the site. lol
