How do you promote celebrity sites? I don't want to spend some money for advertising on my sites so I'm looking for a quality promotion but will yield good results.

Link exchanges are my preferred way or marketing personal/enthusiast sites such as this, as, like you, I don't really want to spend much marketing a site unless it is going to yield significant returns.

Submit the site to directories, maybe knock up an article or two and submit those as well, as they all count as backlinks.

Obviously these methods won't beat traditional advertising methods such as PPC, but they are inexpensive and in many cases free.

Jewel, just think about your target audience. When you want to promote a movie star site then everything refering cinema, tv and movies can be helpful. And ask yourself, who are those people who are fans ? Mostly teenager and young adults. You can find them at special teenager sites, myspace, dating sites and so on. Good luck !

Good additions from Peer too - All too often have I overlooked the power of viral sites such as MySpace for promotional purposes.

You can get a lot of freebies on there and reach thousands of people with a single bulletin - often people will charge you for the privilege, but it's generally a very small fee for the amount of exposure on offer.

I think fan sites are easier to promote than other types of websites. You can show your fan site to that celebrity's fans in a forum, exchange links with similar sites and blogs, join fan listing stuff, webrings, directories (if they are), etc.

Fansites always have those affiliate button things on, they must be quite successful getting users from other fansites.

I've seen a lot of fansites actually maybe because they can easily get traffic. But they have a low ctr though in terms of adsense.

Go to similar sites and ask for exchanges.
Start groups at Google, Yahoo! MS, etc.
