I am new to web development and Search Engine Optimization, and I was wondering what needed to be added to my pages to track visitors, where they came from, what keywords they used to find us, etc. Any advice would be helpful.

There are many sites which offer such for free < extremetracking and more > . They provide the referral stats so you can keep a check on wheres the traffic coming from . Hope , this helps .

Statcounter provides a better service in its paid version. It provides all the kind os reports in paid vs and I think its worth investing.

I'm using statcounter but couldn't find that area to track my visitors probably because I only have the free version.

Google analytics is the best idea to do that.
If you dont have google analytics then go for extremetracker or statecounter. They provide equally quality service as google analytics.
