I spend about 10 hours in a week for building backlinks especially before Page Ranking updates and i must say that i`m succesful with it.

I haven't really started testing my methods that I have planned out yet. However I am planning onto soon. Want to get some good results.

I would say if you are serious you do a good hour per day everyday. Maybe like five days a week. Once your website gets older. You will be able to do it less or none at all.

First couple of months spend a couple of hours a day. After that get like so many a week or even month. Let them come naturally from there. Natural links come when you have good traffic.

I am going to start making a set amount of time per day to make back links to my forums. I will be using forum signature links in order to be able to obtain them free.
