Default What toll will the recession take on the Advertising and Branding Industry

Do you feel Companies will spend more on Branding and Advertising during a recession, or less?

Theres the old adage...

Business is slow, Advertise more.
Business if good, Advertise more.

Thoughts?

I think you will find that businesses will continue their advertising efforts, and unfortunately reduce company overhead by eliminating jobs. You still have to keep your advertising efforts up, and with the lack of business middle management responsibilities will be pushed onto upper management, and those with entry level jobs will find they are taking on more responsibility as the workforce is cut.

What's the saying....

If your company is not doing well, you have to advertise more.

If your company is doing well, you have to advertise more.

Big companies will do what they always do. Even in teh depression, Coca-Cola was doing its marketing.

What will change is smaller companies. You'll see fewer of them climbing the ladder and becoming big companies because they'll be needing to spend more money just running day-to-day.

I agree with the above user.

I believe it is beacuse more and more compeition is being released for businesses that produce products that have been done by to many companies.

I have seen people be sucessful when they have made a new niche of an existing business or product.

For example instead of all the Cola flavored drinks. They made Cherry Cola, etc.
