Default Sliding GOOG

What's everyone think of Google's recent slide in market cap? It's lost upwards of a third of its value since the new year!

Meanwhile, Yahoo, which is probably about to be snapped up by MSFT, remains stagnant, but also possibly a compelling value.

Google as lost a third of it's value since new year? have heard nothing of this. However does it matter if Google goes down that way. The revenue it produces is most likly the same actually growing.

I don't think Google will ever be sold. I cannot see it happening.

I am sure Googles worthness is not going anywhere.

However like William said: It still earns more money then most other web businesses. Possibly all of them.

I think it would be intresting to see someone build something that beat Google. Just to see what Google would do as a come back would be very intresting. The top 100 Internet masters should come togeather and make one.

GOOG has stabilized somewhat, but it's still down 20% on the year.

There's still a lot of doubt as to whether Google can ultimately integrate all their various online properties, and then fully monetize them with search ads.

(There's also a bit of doubt as to whether search ads themselves are going to continue being a driver of revenues for Google; Microsoft is making a massive investment in more-traditional display advertising.)

Probably the main problem with the stock, though, is the same-old breathless dotcom stock-buying behavior from the year 2000. Speculators driving the price up artificially, beyond the company's ability to produce earnings in keeping with the valuation.

Google is also facing problems with YouTube. It as been announced in recent news articles that YouTube need to fix the type of videos that are being added to the website.

Some are horrible. Such as people gang attacks other people. As Google owns YouTube now it is a very big problem for Google.

To be honest. I am sure Google will not be effected by Microsoft and there new advertising schemes.

Google is the number one choice, and I can not personally see this ever changing.

Everyone thought Altavista was the bomb back in '98, too.

Google's got an intimidating market and mindshare, but in this market, the eyeballs always go to the player with the next big thing.

Last year at this time, people thought social networks were the next big thing. Now, in the face of actual usage, they're quickly being revealed as the toys I would assert they always were. (Or, at least, as one viable component in a larger strategy; not a strategy by itself.)

There'll always be the next big thing in this market. Whether Google's the player that has that thing, when it emerges, is pretty much anybody's guess.

Google's reign won't last forever, it'll be interesting to see what knocks them off the top
but personally i don't see it happening very soon but anything could happen,
even Nokia are moving into web, they could use their brand name to make some noise.
