Investing in the People investing in us
There's been a lot of commentary lately about how China finances not only American consumer spending, but also a lot of America's governmental spending.
And obviously, with all the T-bills held over there, there's a lot of truth to that.
I've been looking lately, long and hard, at investing in Chinese banks. True, they're no more insulated from market uncertainties than US banks are, and in fact, are prone to a lot of the same panics and pressures, given their level of investment in the American market.
But overall, I think it's sound. I'm looking in particular at the Hong Kong-based Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Ticker: HK0349).
At a measly $5USD per share, it looks to me to be the fulcrum of the teeter-totter: a place where smart money can wait out the shifting economic fortunes that the next decade seems poised to bring.
I'd be interested to know everyone's thoughts on this, or similar investments.

Investing in those who invest in us is a good way to pay them back. Show some respect. Like I save your life, and you save mine. However this is why I personally wouldn't want investments from others.

It sounds all good from what I can see.
However I don't fully understand exactly what it all means with the China business.

Way I see it, American investment in China's what got us into the mess we're in.
All these American companies are being very careless about transferring our state secrets to the Chinese (from night-vision goggles to facial recognition software to satellite, missile, and other aerospace and defense technology, Western firms trying to crack the Chinese market for its cheap labor have consistently shown themselves willing to betray their home countries.
No money and no market, regardless of how big, should be considered worth putting your own people at risk.

I guess it would depend on what it is and who you are helping. I believe a good investment would be investing in those who invest in you. This way you are supporting eachother.

Hmmm. I have never personally myself had the experience in someone invest in me. So it is hard to say what I would do.
However I am guessing investing in people who invest in you is a good idea.

That's not quite what the initial poster means.
What he means is that a lot of our Treasury Department's bonds and T-bills are bought by overseas investors.
Further, much of the equity in some of America's biggest corporations and brands are owned by foreign entities. (You may have heard of Anheuser-Busch being bought by InBev, of Belgium.)
A historic financial change is at hand; there's a lot of pundits who are referring to it as a "transfer" of wealth; I find the term "reapportionment" is more appropriate. But nonetheless, the result is the same. A lot of wealth formerly owned by America, or by American corporations, is now held overseas.
And thus, since the profits generated by that wealth will be spent in those other countries, it is a good time for Americans, in turn, to begin investing "over there".

So you don't mean certain individuals. You mean countried investing in things in other countries so the other countries benefit from it?
Like small Islands that have become popular holiday destinations. Meaning that these countires get built up because of this?
