Default Marketing a site with an unpopular subject

We all know running a website that doesn't have many competitors is a good idea, but how do you go about successfully marketing it?

I think the first thing I would do is dig into whatever forums the target market hangs out at and make good use of my forum signature and whenever I could incorporate my website into my posts without being spammy, only if it is relevant to a conversation.

Yeah, but if it's a really unpopular subject then you'll have trouble finding where people interested in it are.

Very true! I'm thinking if it's that unpopular, can it be profitable?

It will surely become profitable if you can make it popular. I think for an an unpopular subject, it takes a concerted effort. Finding the right group with similar niche interest can be of help.

But there can be hundreds of people intrested even the subject is unpopular. I think that can be good if you can get some visitors.

Well, majority of internet users are teens, try to target them. Make it something that they would be interested in. Once a few get hooked, they tell their friends, their friends get hooked and tell their friends, ect.

It will become popular then if you make some unique content for it. It may be unpopular at first but once it provides some useful info, it might stand out.

You should try to find where the market for the product lies. Then you could exchange link with the sites that are in the same field.
