...way of marketing your forum without using any other methods what would it be?

Mine would be post trades because quite often the person I'm trading with likes the forum and actually ends up sticking around. Then that helps the forum look active and more visitors are more likely tro stick around etc.

I find that quite a good way

A reward system could also work. Active posters are given due recognition or rewards which may not be necessarily in the form of cash. Non monetary rewards like free ad banner space, free web hosting or domain names also work.

Yeah those sound like good ideas

People seem to like getting points even if they don't really gain anything from it

Trading posts is really effective for all forum owners as they can make quality posts actually. I have known a forum before for all admins exchanging posts daily.

I think that rewards is the bet form to get a forum going.People I feel do not like to post for nothing specially when there is not too much activity on a forum.

Trading posts is an excellent idea and putting your forum in the sugnature also helps in a couple of ways. First it's a link that the search engines will use to find your site, so hopefully will new members.

Pop into mine below and have a chat if you've got time, I've added a general banter section as this always helps.

I find that trading posts with someone that has the same genre forum as you is the best idea because not only they can make good posts, but they're more likely to return as normal members

I'd stick to advertising my site in forums that I actively post in.

Maybe reward system would work fine to market your forum. Of course it has to be a good offer or nobody will want to register in your forum.
If it doesn't work, trading posts would be my second option.
