Choosing administrators.
How do you choose other admins? Do you choose others or do you run your sites on your own? I hire mods all the time but admins...that's a whole other issue. I have a hard time trusting people I don't know. I don't want to risk losing posts, members, etc. Certain forums don't let you restrict access to certain areas or features.
I also judge people by their posts or PMs. I like it when people are grammatically correct. Shows me they can be professional.

Ultimately you never know. I like to test people for a few post, then a week, then a long term contract. You just never know how admins will mesh with the community until you try. I know we are VERY happy with some of our admins but sometimes you get a lame duck and they don't last for more than a few days.

Yah. I have the same problem with moderators. Even if they're paid.
If they pretty much did nothing, do you still pay them a percentage for their efforts?

Same here. I have never had a good moderator, much less a good admin. Just by seeing what flakes people can be I don't think I would trust anyone administering my sites. If I could get a good moderator I could see growing them into the admin. I'm not anywhere near that now though!

Same here. I had one moderator copy and paste the majority of their posts. He asked me to make him an admin then he asked me to install all kinds of MODs that would effect revenue and such.

Yeah I would never let someone an admin unless you knew them really well as they might take over your site or reck it or something.

Yes some people would not be a good choice for admin. But then again you find those people who are perfect for the job and get them on full. I am currently the Moderator of DomainNameForumz and well it's an Search Engine Optimization/Domain name forum itself over 200 posts strong. It is fun to help a growing community grow and to learn more about something you are working at that is the + of being an admin or moderator IMO.

I think it all depends on the situation. To choose a moderator, that is way easier(in my opinion) to choose, than an admin. You still need to think of who will make the best decisions as a mod, but they don't have as much of an influence as an admin. You shouldn't make someone admin of your forum or site unless you have known them for a few months and talk with them regularly, or know them personally as a friend. Like the others have said, picking a wrong admin can have a big impact on your forum or site.

I switched most of my sites over to MyBB and now I can restrict access all over my board for administrators. It's pretty great and now I look forward to adding on another admin or two.

I only give people admin powers if I have known them for a long time and trust them, or I can see from other forums that they are professional and will be good.
