Default Buying .com and .country

When you are launching a web site, do you usually buy both the .com and the .country domain? I try to do this wherever possible, as I got stung once by someone who picked up the .co.uk and tried to pass himself off as my site - I ended up moving to another domain over that one

I usually just buy the .com extension. You just have to make sure that you develop your site better so that your site will get the upper hand.

If the website is purely country oriented then getting both the .com and the country ccTLD is good idea, however, if the domain is somewhat globally oriented then .com would do just fine.

People usually have the habit of remembering .com at the end

Suppose you have a site called XYZ.co.uk,
returning visitors would go to XYZ.com the next time and hence you are diminishing your own traffic...

I agree with you

You just see, Press CTRL + ENTER, it will give .com as well. So, its easy to use. Go for a .com domain and if you have lots of money to spare, buy all domain extensions with that
