General or Niche?
What kind of directory do you think is better, a general directory or something that is specializing in its field like a business directory or a webmaster directory?

A niche directory is always better, I have a directory which is dedicated to business websites only and it does better than my general directories. It also depends on which niche you are going to choose.

General directories are the easiest to market because they include just about everyone. This allows you to market it just about anywhere. Niche directories take a lot more effort but can pay off much more in the long run.

You should have a directory for a specific type of site.
General directories are way too saturated.

with a niche you know you will get targetted traffic which it more valuable then random people who not interested in your site so i would go for niche related every time.

As there are already tons of General directories , I would prefer setting up a niche directory and promoting it . Ofcourse , do some analysis before choosing the niche .

Yeah, my sentiment mirrors everyone above. Relevant links are good links, from what I've read. I'd think that a specific niche directory would be far more relevant then a directory that just any site can apply to.

I think that something that had specialized while it may cost a little more would be a good place to go where you can get more of a traffic then you would on something that is just random and you don't get very much traffic at all and it's just there for a back link or as a Page Ranking link. That is what I would choose if I were looking for Traffic really depends on what you are looking for though.

As a webmaster point of view, general directory is better because you get better chance of getting submissions. On the other hand the niche directory only caters a specific niche and most of the times audience isn't much of that particular niche.

Niche, no dout about that. Most general directories are full of garbage. They anly websites with lots of links to build page ranks.
