Free Directories - Worth It?
I've noticed a lot of free directories that don't pass pagerank in their links, and also a lot that have the front page as high Page Ranking and the category pages all lower rank.
Are they worth submitting to, really?
Is it worth submitting to ones that require a reciprocal (and thereby watering down your links page with tons of links)? Or, should you just go for totally free directories in the hope of getting some traffic?
I'd be interested to hear what people think.

I submit to free directories and just avoid the ones that require a reciprocal link. It helps get your site out there a little but. Try it.

Any link to your site is worth it, PR0, who cares? A backlink is a backlink lol, it is worth submitted, or will be in the future lol, but submit to as many as you can, it will pay off.

Some people see free as free. The thing you are not thinking about is that even free submisions require some time. Time is money. Of course you can use automated submission tools to lessen the work involved.
A link is not a link. A listing only provides any value if it will get indexed and help you rank for your terms. A listing can even hurt you if the directory devolves into a link farm. What you should be looking for are directories that are well maintained and are not just another worthless one. Paid submissions are always going to get you the best results but you can often get in on a new directory before they go free. Simply looking it over you should be able to decide if the directory has a chance of developing into something special. There is no point wasting your time with ones that are not going to last.

It' better to submit to directories to build one way links. I had a site that made it to PR3 by just getting links from directories.

Free link directories are good sources on one way link. There's nothing to lose because they're free.

The main aim of submitting to free directories is to increase the Page Ranking. Most of the directories have PR2-PR5 and similarly, your site's PR gets boosted as no. of backlinks increases from the sites with high PR

Guys, I think you didn't get the OP's point. I think he mean free directories which uses rel="nofollow" tag so that Page Ranking is not passed to outbound links. I don't care about submitting to such directories because you don't get any backlink, and most of the times, getting traffic from a directory is just a dream so basically you waste time submitting to such directories.

Yes you may be correct!
Free directories give you important back links and It will also help you to increase the page rank of your site free of cost
If a Reciprocal Directory has PR4 with inner pages PR2 then its worth submitting!

If you are submitting to Free Directories then make sure it has not turned into a linkfarm cos a link from a linkfarm wont do any good to your site . Only go for well maintained free directories which have high standards for submissions . If well maintained , then Even Free Directories are Worthed !!
